Fishing
Reports - Central Island: Campbell River
21 November, 2000
 |
The days
have been clear and calm making for great opportunities to get
out on the water for some winter Chinook fishing. The winter
Chinook fishing is great in November, and you can expect to
catch fish averaging around 8 pounds with anything over 25 inches
being keeper size.
Though smaller than the typical Chinook coming through June
through September, the winter Chinook put up a terrific fight,
and are the perfect size for the barbecue.
Also hot at this time of the year is the prawning. Our guides
have been doing very well with their traps, and fresh prawns
are a great addition to a seafood meal.
This is the time of year on the rivers when we see the summer
run steelhead just moving out and the winter run steelhead moving
in. The dry weather over the last couple of weeks has made the
water levels in the river very fishable. Our guides are starting
to prepare their gear for the rapidly approaching winter steelhead
season. If you are thinking of making a steelhead trip in March
or April, you should book your trip now as it is one of our
busiest times of year.
The temperatures have been fairly cool over the last couple
of weeks, and we have seen some heavy frost appearing in the
mornings. The weather forecast is however calling for rain in
the next couple of days, and along with the cloud we should
see some higher temperatures. Expect the temperature to get
up to about 10 degrees Celsius (50 degrees F) during the day,
and down to 5 or 6 degrees Celsius (43 degrees F) at night.
Not exactly tropical... but at least we're not in Buffalo! Updated:
