Fishing
Reports - South Island, Victoria and the Gulf Islands
15 September, 2000
Oooh,
I hope you have all been weight training, because
our rivers are full off Huge Chinook Salmon weighing
up to 50 lbs!

Our
Chinook, Coho and Chum Salmon are now entering the
rivers with mostly the large Chinooks in the greatest
numbers. The Coho and Chum numbers will pick up
as the month passes. Hooking up with these runaway
freight trains, can be a humbling experience.
They will go where they want to, and you will have
to hang on for dear life. If you outsmart and outlast
these " Knuckle Busters ," you will have a great
picture to show your friends.
Using stout fly or gear rods is mandatory, as they
will test your outer limits. Please read local regulations
and look out for postings for information on retention
and closures.
This also is prime time for our numerous Black Bears,
Bald Eagles and even our Elk sightings. Nature at
it's finest as Fall is really starting to show it's
colours. Watch for cool mornings and wear layers
so you can peel them off as it warm ups. If you
are driving our back roads, drive carefully, and
watch out for our logging trucks.

Ocean
fishing is still really strong, as Salmon and Halibut
are very plentiful. We are having a great September
and with clam seas, it makes for a great outing.
Watch out for whales, seals and sea lions.
I don't have much more to say, as this is my one
of my favourite months, for Weather, Fishing and
Scenery. It always makes for an very interesting,
productive outing, and it just sells itself!
The Best time to go Fishing...is Anytime you can
Go!
