Fishing
Reports - Sunshine Coast
June 2000
The
weather these past 3 weeks has been terrible, with wind and
rain along most of the South Coast, which has made the average
fisherman stay home. During the calm periods, the fishing has
been good for the anglers that have been out, with springs/chinook
in the high teens to 25-pound range.
The Georgia Strait area has had some great fishing this past
week, with guides reporting fair fishing on the charters. The
live herring moochers have had some fish off Epson Point, but
you have to fight the seals to get your salmon aboard.
Some great fishing even with the extreme weather, rain and wind.
Fish on their way to the Squamish, Harrison and the Fraser River
have made some good fishing in Late May and early June, and
these fish are great fighters. Springs have been averaging in
the teens, with most spots producing good fishing, namely the
mouth of Secret Cove, Buccaneer Bay, and Pirates Rock, with
Epson Point being the Secret Cove hot spot, with some fish in
the 20 to 25 pound class. Live bait fishing is the way most
anglers fish, but the trollers have had excellent catches, especially
in the early morning and late evening.
In the Pender Harbour area, Bargain Harbour, Quarry Bay and
the outside Reef are still producing excellent catches. With
the extreme low tides, all the clam and oyster pickers covered
most beaches, and have had big lows to get those rarely seen
big oysters.
