The park's sandy shoreline is backed by a forest of hemlock, red cedar, and birch, in sharp contrast to the drier ponderosa pine and Douglas fir forests of the Thompson Plateau to the west. Summer camping here is ideal for those who prefer a cooler locale than the Okanagan Valley.

You might spot a deer or black bear; you'll definitely see a variety of waterfowl and other birdlife, and painted turtles can be seen at Taylor Creek.

Mabel Lake has a beautiful sandy shoreline and peaceful waters, perfect for a refreshing swim, canoeing or kayaking. Canoeists often enjoy paddling down the Shuswap River, which flows out of the southern end of the lake. The lake offers good rainbow-trout, Dolly Varden, and kokanee fishing. There is an archaeological site here.  The park has some hiking trails that wind through the surrounding forests, including a one-hour interpretive trail.  During the summer months, educational interpretive programs are offered.

The park contains 81 vehicle/tent sites divided between two campgrounds – Monashee and Trinity.  Full services are provided from April 1 to Oct 31. Both campgrounds are situated in a forested setting and basic facilities are provided. There is also a adventure playgroundand sani-station.  The Trinity campground has a large picnic/day-use area and a boat launch.  Water-skiing and boating are popular, and the nearby marina offers boat rentals.
