  Weather in BC

Located near the confluence of the Clearwater and North Thompson Rivers, the 126-hectare North Thompson River Provincial Park includes a quiet campground, open from May to September. A riverside picnic area, a playground, and trails complement the campsites in a forested area, on the banks of the North Thompson River.

Smooth depressions in the ground (kekuli) and food cache pits along the riverbanks are evidence of former Native Canadian habitation in the park; check out the two archeological sites as well.

Canoeing and kayaking are superb, as is the hiking. The North Thompson River contains stocks of rainbow trout, Chinook salmon and Dolly Varden, making it a good fishing destination. Steelhead are an oceangoing species of trout, or salmon, depending on whom you consult, famous for their size, speed, stamina, and tremendous strength.

A wading/swimming area is located on a back eddy where the Clearwater River flows into the North Thompson, but caution should be taken.  The current can be very fast and the water icy cold during flood season in June and July.

There are 61 vehicle/tent campsites at this park, as well as day-use/picnic sites. The park is open from May to September and fees are collected during this time. Basic facilities are provided – picnic tables, pit toilets, fire pits, firewood and water – as well as a sani-station.  Some facilities are wheelchair accessible. Services such as gas, propane and food may be found in Clearwater. Attractions in the area include a miniature railroad, gallery, museum, river rafting, guided horseback riding, rowboat rentals, bike rentals, mini-golf and 18-hole golf, and boat tours.

North Thompson River Provincial Park is located in the North Thompson region of British Columbia, 3 miles (5 km) south of Clearwater off the Yellowhead Highway 5.
