Visit British Columbia's first and only winery producing wines exclusively made from 100% natural wild berries. Dedicated local pickers who love nature and BCís outdoor lifestyle harvest the berries from various pristine locations across BC. There are well over 40 edible varieties of wild berries that grow in BC, and it is the wineryís goal to offer as many varieties as possible to their ever-growing portfolio and clientele.

Kermode wild berry winery is a family-run business developed by naturalists and brothers Bob and Fritz Sprieszl. Their ingenious idea of producing wines from edible BC wild berries has progressed from a fun day of picking berries in the woods to a world-famous winery winning awards across Canada, the US, and Japan. Their wild Blackberry and blueberry wines have received numerous gold medal awards.

The winery name comes from the Kermode, or spirit bear, which the BC government has now named as the official animal of British Columbia. The Kermode is an extremely rare, white phase of black bear found predominately on BCís north coast, along with several of the wineryís signature berries. Itís white colour is due to a recessive gene that is present in both parents. It is estimated that only one in ten Black Bear matings results in a white Kermode newborn.

Kermode Wild Berry Winery is nestled near the small village of Dewdney, located 8 km east of Mission City, along Highway 7. Stop in at the tasting room and sample a glass of their magnificent wines. Their beautiful photo gallery of BC wild berries can educate the public on picking techniques and the best times to harvest. You can also buy frozen berries and fresh berries when in season.
