Subject:Queen Charlotte Islands renamed Haida Gwaii

The name Queen Charlotte Islands was changed to Haida Gwaii in 2009. I was wondering what people think of this name change, especially the first Nations people that live on the islands, and others that live on the islands. Were there consultations or a referendum?
