This site has been so helpful for me to learn more about geography and wildlife of the Rockies paintings done by Thomas Mower Martin. He visited the area ten times from 1887-1910 and said, 'if I'd known these were here when I came to Canada in 1862 I never would have settled in the east' ! He adored the wilderness, never feared wild animals, loved camping out and being the passionate gardener he was, he brought seeds of shrubs and flowers with him to scatter throughout the Rockies. He mused 'one day someone may see these and wonder how on earth they ever got here.' In the early days of the CPR they gave a few artists free passes in return for first choice of paintings done of the area. We are so lucky in Canada to have the art works of this gorgeous wilderness done by Martin and others that remind us of what a great country this is to live in. Thanks for you wonderful website.
