Nestled
between the spectacular Selkirk and Rocky Mountain Ranges in the
BC Rockies is the sleepy hamlet of Golden. This town had miners
running to it in 1858 during the B.C. Gold Rush. Now it has people
rushing to it with the same enthusiasm but for a different reason:
Golf. Golden boasts one of the best courses in the province with
Golden Golf & Country Club.
With breathtaking
views of the surrounding mountains this course is an awe-inspiring
combination of great golf and even greater beauty. The small town
atmosphere and warm welcome will make you feel at ease in the pastoral
surroundings, but the numerous water hazards and fifty silica-sand
traps will quickly remind you of the dangers of being distracted.
No hole typifies
the Golden touch better than number 11. This 385 yard par four is
consistently ranked as one of the top holes in the province. A solid
drive in the high-country air is needed to set-up the crucial second
shot. Be careful not to over-swing though, there is water down the
entire right side of the fairway.
Your second
shot can range from a wedge to a 5 wood depending on the angle to
the green you are left with after your drive.Be sure to take enough
club though, you must shoot over water and carry three sand traps
to reach the green safely.
This daunting
task is made even more demanding due to the beauty of the hole.
Number eleven is a favorite of local wedding parties. If you can
put it all together, you will remember this course for a lifetime.
This summer join the golf rush to the Selkirk Mountains. Golf Golden
Golf and Country Club. with BC Golf Vacations.
