Lac La Hache, a beautiful lake in a rolling Fraser Plateau setting, is one of the most popular lakes along Highway 97. Also known as Kumatakwa or Axe Lake, named for a trader who dropped his axe in the water, the park is great for hiking, swimming, waterskiing, canoeing, kayaking, boating and fishing. This is one of the most picturesque bodies of water and is known for its large concentrations of kokanee and lake trout.

Within the park there is also a boat launch available for public use and an adventure playground for the youngsters. After swimming, we recommend that you shower as Swimmer’s Itch is sometimes a problem in mid-summer. At the lake's south end is the small community of Lac La Hache, which describes itself as 'the longest town in the Cariboo.'

Cariboo Nature Park is a small park just 3 kilometres north of Lac La Hache. It protects waterfowl nesting at Woodfrog Lake, and is a good spot for bird watching and walking. There are no facilities, but Ducks Unlimited have constructed nesting boxes and nesting platforms for wood ducks and Canada geese. Be sure to visit the Heritage House at 108 Mile is a half-hour’s drive from the campground, and is open from May to September.

Lac La Hache Provincial Park's 83 campsites are set in relatively open Douglas fir and aspen woodlands beside one of the biggest lakes seem from Hwy 97.  Facilities provided include pit toilets, picnic tables, fire pits, firewood, and water. Campsites are uphill from the highway, while the picnic site and boat launch are right on the lake. The park is open from May to September 30 and fees are collected during this time.

The campground host or Park Facility Operator can inform you of other things to do in the area, as well as boat rental locations. There is a pay phone located at the campground entrance and the community of Lac La Hache offers a grocery store, gas station, bakery, ice cream parlour and a few restaurants.

Lac La Hache Provincial Park is located in the Cariboo region of British Columbia, 19 miles (30 km) northwest of 100 Mile House off Cariboo Highway 97.
